That was my first thought as I had not caught a carp since 1994 and prior to that I was a kid. This thing looked different to me than those carp.. Do carp have different shaped top fins? The pics on the MO Conservation site show the upper fin extending back nearly to the tail with a height gradually tapering. This fish's fin dropped off quickly. Also the side view of the head looks different. Are there variations of carp in MO?

I suspect there are different types of carp around. These, however, look like the ones we have around here. That mouth extends out to eat off the bottom. You can see it in action by dropping some corn puffs (anything really) in the water at most marinas. The carp will come up and extend their mouth to the surface to get them. My grandkids do that all the time at 83 Marina here on Pomme.

Thanks for the information. The only thing I know for certain is it was a lot of fun catching him on my light action spinning rod with 6 pound test line. It made for a memorable night of crappie fishing!

Did you eat them, Bob? There are many ways to de-bone them. What lake did you catch them in?
Love that hat and light. Gona get me both. Actually, during daytime hous I wear a Stetson. My ears are already toast. I am the product of over 10 skin cancers, already. Wife thinks I should wear a bag over my head. Not sure what she means by that.

The crappie and the carp came from Pomme De Terre near Haverstick cove. We eat the crappie and threw back the carp. The light is awesome for night fishing, worming etc, the trifocals I wear are not. The hat is great until the wind tries to blow it off, good thing it has a hold down string. Also, the neting on the sides of the top part of the hat allow the sun to burn my scalp some. (not a lot of hair in that area) Overall, I don't fish without it. Just so you know I own a home in the lake area and spend about 3 weeks a year there. I will be asking for fall fishing advise for our Oct trip. Catch a big one!

Bob I invite you to look at my fishing report for Pomme, if you have not already located it. I post every Thursday and have done so since 1996. www.winlyn.us/report.htmlRegrettably, this will be my last year doing the report. We are going to start traveling more and I won't be able to do it justice. Am thinking maybe Alaska next summer. We are from the KC area. My company moved its medical operation to Florida in 96 and I took buyout . Told the wife to quit her job and we would just go to the lake for the summer. Well we never went back. Sold the house in KC last year. So, I guess it is permanent. [shadow=red,left,300][glow=red,2,300]Winston[/glow][/shadow]

hey, that's a silver carp, but Pomme dosn't have any recorded in it's records, so I don't know if somebody just released it from a different lake, I really don't know how it got there, but it's a silver carp.
Hey, I'm going to pomme de terre tomarrow, I'll give you an update on the fishing when I get back, I'll mainly be fishing for catfish and bluegill, I'm going to try minnows to see what I get with them, last time I used worms.

Winston So sad to hear this is the last year for you report, I've been reading it regulary since I found it a couple of years ago. It is sooooooo much better than the state provided report. I do understand your position though. My fishing hat is off to you for all the time you have spent on the site and all the enjoyment it provides sportsman. (I have signed your guest book last year)

Ray Thanks for letting me know that it is a silver carp. And thank you for doing the work on this site, i enjoy it. I will be checking it often especailly before making my trips to Pomme. My largest 2 fish this year were caught on minnows (silver carp & large mouth bass) both on Pomme using my light spinning rod and 6 #test. Fun, Fun

winlyn, what's happening to your site? it's the best single lake site I've ever seen.
But I just got back yesterday from pomme, and I bought 24 minnows, I fished with them all day and didn't get a single bite! I did catch a small turtle, but I don't consider that as anything when I'm trying to get fish.
But I did catch a lot of bluegill this time, it's not as many as I caught the first time I went because I was stuck on land, I didn't have my boat with me. But I'll send winlyn the pics.
